Henry Bial is Professor of Theatre and Director of the School of the Arts at the University of Kansas, where he also serves as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He is the author of Playing God: The Bible on the Broadway Stage (Michigan, 2015) and Acting Jewish: Negotiating Ethnicity on the American Stage and Screen (Michigan, 2005). In addition, he is the editor or co-editor of three collections: The Performance Studies Reader (Routledge, 2004, 2nd Edition 2007, 3rdEdition 2016), Theater Historiography: Critical Interventions (Michigan, 2010), and Brecht Sourcebook (Routledge, 2000). He has published articles in TDR, Theatre Topics and The Journal of American Drama and Theatre as well as several book chapters. He has served on the editorial boards of Theatre Survey, Theatre Topics, Ecumenica, The Journal of Religion and Theatre, The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, and The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Stage Actors and Acting. Bial is the Immediate Past President of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE).
