Lawrence Switzky is Assistant Professor of English and Drama at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on modern and contemporary drama, theatre directing, puppetry and material performance, and digital games. His writing has appeared in Modern Drama, TDR, Theater, SHAW: The Journal of Bernard Shaw Studies, Canadian Theatre Review, Opera Quarterly, and in numerous published collections. He is currently co-editing a volume of essays on Shakespeare and the non-human turn and is editing a volume of plays for the new Collected Works of Bernard Shaw for Oxford University Press. His book, The Rise of the Theatre Director: Negotiations with the Material World, is forthcoming from Northwestern University Press. He is currently participating in a Mellon-funded collaboration with Handspring Puppet Theater and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.
